Gentleman Coded

Privacy policy

This page explains what personal information Gentleman Coded collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect very little, we don’t sell it, and we only use analytics cookies if you say yes.

Who we are

Gentleman Coded (gentlemancoded.com) is run by Alex Harrington, who is responsible for your information under UK data protection law. You can reach us through our contact page.

When you read the site

  • Analytics, only if you accept. We use Google Analytics to see how the site is read, such as which pages are popular and roughly where readers come from, so we can improve it. Its script and cookies load only after you click Accept on the banner. If you click Reject, or do nothing, they don’t load. We rely on your consent for this, and you can change your mind at any time using “Cookie choices” at the foot of every page.
  • No advertising. We don’t use advertising or social media tracking cookies.
  • Our fonts are our own. Fonts are served from our own website, so they send nothing to anyone else.
  • Server logs. Like every website, our host keeps short-term technical logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) to keep the site running and secure.

The cookies we use

  • gc_consent remembers your choice about analytics, for six months. It’s set when you click Accept or Reject.
  • _ga and _ga_* are Google Analytics cookies that tell one visit from another. They’re set only if you accept, and we remove them if you later reject.
  • WordPress login cookies are set only for people who log in to manage the site.

When you contact us

If you use our contact form, we receive your name, your email address and your message by email, so that we can reply. We use them only for that, keep them only as long as we need to deal with your message, and never add you to a mailing list without asking.

Who else sees it

We don’t sell your information. Two other companies are involved: our web host, Hostinger, which stores the website and handles its email on our behalf, and, if you accept analytics, Google, which provides Google Analytics and may process the data outside the UK. You can read Google’s privacy policy.

Your rights

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Just contact us. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

We will update this page if anything changes, for example if we start a newsletter. This version is dated 1 November 2026.
